This is a handsome yellow 1977 alternate managers/coaches jersey from Bobby Winkles legendary collegiate coach at Arizona State and the manager of the Oakland As for parts of the 1977 and 1978 seasons. He became the Sun Devils' head coach in 1958 and served through 1971 compiling a winning percentage of .751 (524-173) during his 14 seasons in Tempe and earning a spot in the College Baseball Hall of Fame (2006). After a stint managing the Angels Winkles then became a coach for the Athletics; he managed them for parts of the 1977 and 1978 seasons as he replaced (in 1977) and then was succeeded by (in '78) the same manager: Jack McKeon.
On the center front tail is a McAuliffe Uniform Corp. manufacturers tag. Below is a size 44 tag. Below that is a 1977 tag attached to a tag with washing instructions. On the center chest area is an As logo in green on white tackle twill. Across the back reads Winkles in green tackle twill sewn directly onto the jersey; below is Winkles No. 1 in green-on-white tackle twill. Winkles has added a black Sharpie autograph to the back of the shirt to the right of his No. 1. This jersey is properly tagged and shows game use and appears to be essentially as-issued and without alteration.
Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Newport Sports Museum Collection.
