Omar Moreno was a journeyman centerfielder who played for five different MLB teams over a 12-year span (1975 to ’86). In 1976 his first substantial season and true rookie campaign with the Pittsburgh Pirates Moreno batted .270 after playing in 48 games and collecting 33 hits in 122 at-bats. He also stole 15 bases that year which started him on his way to swiping 487 career bases by the time he hung up his cleats after the ’86 season.This lot features Moreno’s game worn Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey from ’76 rookie campaign.

The aged polyester white pullover Rawlings jersey (size 42) includes proper manufacturer’s tagging on the inside right front tail as well as a strip tag reading “Set 1 #8P 1974” which means this jersey was used prior to Moreno’s arrival in the Steel City. A celebratory redwhite and blue embroidered “National League Centennial 1876-1976” patch adorns the left sleeve commemorating the N.L.'s 100-year anniversary. The jersey reads “PIRATES”across the front of the chest area in black tackle twill lettering outlined in gold with uniform number “18” positioned on the left chest area in similar tackle twill fashion. Fraying puckering and exceptional wear and tear is most evident on the letters and numbers. The back of the jersey shows outlines from where a previous number was worn prior to the “18” that now resides there in black tackle twill outlined in gold. Noticeable wear is evident on the jersey via some staining as well as some small tears on the back of the jersey where the number “18” shows substantial fraying and puckering. The Pirates’ trademark black and gold elastic knit adorns the collar and arm openings.

Note: The jersey was originally worn in '74 by pitcher Ramon Hernandez (#36). The Pirates jerseys did not feature player names on the back of their uniforms until the 1979 season.
