In 1974 USC was coached by John McKay and took the PAC-8 title with a 6-0-1 record before going on to defeat Big Ten Champion Ohio State 18-17 in the Rose Bowl. Trailing 17-10 with just two minutes to go USC quarterback Pat Haden led the Trojans on a touchdown drive that included a 38-yard scoring strike to J.K. McKay and then threw to Shelton Diggs for a two-point conversion in the final minute to give the Trojans the National Title. This is the National Championship Trophy that was formerly displayed in McKays and then succeeding head coach John Robinsons USC office celebrating the Trojans historic 1974 title. Robinson served as offensive coordinator for USC from 1972 to 74 before becoming the teams head coach in 76. The largely wooden prize includes a two-tiered base that measures 16 wide by 7.5 deep and includes one half of a metal football set on top of it against a wooden backdrop that resembles a football in flight. The 16-pound trophy includes a specially engraved nameplate on the front that reads: University of Southern California 1974 Selected by the Football Writers Association of America. The ultimate college football prize from one of the nations most storied programs.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum. The founder of the museum John Hamilton is a USC alum and chairman of the USC Athletic Hall of Fame. Hamilton himself was enshrined in 2015 for his role in developing the USC Hall of Fame in 1994 as well as his many charitable endeavors including the museum.
