Muhammad Ali has planted a handsome black Sharpie autograph smack dab in the middle of this front cover of the Feb. 4 1974 issue of Sports Illustrated. The autograph is a beauty and elevates a handsome Ex-Mt example of the popular weekly magazine to full historical artifact status. Back in the halcyon days when Sports Illustrated would offer significant editorial space to amateur archers yachtsmen and even bridge players boxing was still king and the cover marked his 16th such honor up to that point. Could the editors have imagined there would be nearly two dozen more to come in the ensuing decades?
