Captured at the height of "Jacksonmania," this charming original Type 1 photograph presents the Jackson 5 posed together on a television soundstage in 1972. Dressed in matching white suits trimmed with sequins, complete with dramatic bell-bottoms and oversized collars, the brothers (left to right: Tito with guitar in hand, Marlon, a beaming 14-year-old Michael at center, Jackie and Jermaine with his bass) stand shoulder to shoulder before a drum kit and a marquee of lights. Michael's broad smile and the group's coordinated look make this a quintessential early-1970s image of Motown's most famous family act.
The reverse is rich with period newspaper archive markings, including an "OCT 30 1972" date stamp, a time stamp reading "'72 OCT 30 PM 10:06," a bold "ROUNDUP" stamp and pencil notations reading "CBS Special" and "Nov. 5 – TV," indicating its use to promote the group's network television appearance. A typed "Jackson Five (Persons)" file label and "12-8-72" notation along the edge further document its archive history.
By 1972, the group had already logged four consecutive No. 1 singles, and Michael had launched his solo career with "Got to Be There" and the chart-topping "Ben," released that summer. The black-and-white print presents with sharp detail, with light toning and a small stain on the reverse. Authenticated by PSA/DNA as a Type 1 photograph and encapsulated (cert. #85919022). A wonderful image from the group's Motown peak.
