1972 Oakland Athletic Road Jersey worn by Hall of Fame closer Rollie Fingers while saving Game 7 of the 1972 World Series against the National League Champion Cincinnati Reds. The jersey was given to long time Athletic TV and Radio announcer Monte Moore in the victorious A's locker room right after Moore interviewed him for the NBC-TV post-game show.

Fingers was a workhorse in the 1972 Series appearing in 6 out of 7 games winning Game 4 and saving Game 2 and the clinching Game 7. Fingers also lost Game 5 when appearing in his 5th straight game he surrendered the winning run after 3 1/3 innings of work on a Pete Rose single in the 9th inning. The 1972 World Series title would be the first by an Athletic team since way back in 1930. It would also be the first of 3 straight World Championships in a row.

Fingers at a later date has written on the jersey right below his name stitched on the back in beautiful 8-9/10 black felt tip pen "My 1972 Game "7" World Series Jersey Rollie Fingers HOF 92". "McAuliffe Uniform Corp" Size "42" and "1972" tags sewn into bottom front inside tail. Jersey exhibits extensive game use with separation along some of the white edges of the #4 on the back. Small stains to left of collar on front.

Monte Moore was the primary voice of the A's beginning in 1962 while the team was still in Kansas City thru 1992 in Oakland with time away from 1981 thru 1988. In the late 1970's and early 1980's he did work on both the NBC Saturday and USA Thursday Night Television Games of the Week. With the A's he did both radio and television over his many years with the team. During the 1972 World Series he worked Games 3-4-5 on National Television and Games 1-2 and 6-7 on National Radio.

Jersey comes with a letter from Monty Moore our consignor on his stationary telling the story about how he obtained the jersey from Fingers right after the NBC-TV interview in the A's victorious clubhouse. It also states that the jersey has been in his possession ever since.

The jersey was sent to MEARS and they found it to be a 1972 Rollie Fingers World Series Game Used Jersey but believe it was used in Game 5 of the Series not Game 7. Their determination is based on blown up images taken from a World Series highlight tape and some other smaller pictures. MEARS gave the jersey an A8 rating taking 2 points off for the fabric separation on the #4 on back.

Game 7 as we believe or Game 5 this is an awesome piece of World Series history Game Worn by a Hall of Fame closer who played a significant role in his team's victory with outstanding documentation.

LOA from Monte Moore. Full LOA from MEARS with an A8 grade.
