This torch hails from the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics, the scene of Mark Spitz's record-breaking 7 gold medals as well as the unfortunate massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the hands of Palestinian terrorists. The nickel chromium torch is engraved "München 1972" with the interlocking Olympic rings logo, plus "Spiele der XX Olympiade" on the handle. The round platform at the base of the combustion tube bears the emblem of the Games, representing a crown of rays of light. The knob of the handle is engraved "KRUPP" with three interlocking rings. The torch is 28" long (71 cm) with the round platform having a diameter of 8" (20 cm). We are unsure if this torch was used in the relay as it has been very well-preserved and there few signs of being lit at the end of the tube. Light scratches from handling and storage, it presents EX-MT/NM overall. A wonderful example.
