The 1972 United States Gymnastics Federation (USGF) National Championships were held from May 7 through 9 at Georgie Southern University in Statesboro Georgia. This lot includes an impressive trophy that was awarded at that competition the 10th annual of its kind. The trophy which stands 9.5 tall and includes a wooden base that measures 10 across boasts a silver-plated female figure in what appears to be a move from the balance beam contest. The beam however is actually the top of what appears to be a globe and the figure is encased in an acrylic casing. The front of the trophy base sports a pair of medallions one of which reads: 1972 United States Gymnastics Federation Gymnastic Championships of the U.S. The second medallion which appears to be a copy of the back of the other one states: Congratulations on Your Award-Winning Performance in the 10th Annual USGF NATIONAL Championships. It includes the date and location and is attributed to Frank I. Bare the acting USGF Executive Director. The trophy weighs just over seven pounds.
