Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk will forever be remembered in Red Sox lore for his famous home run at Fenway to win Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. The sight of him watching that high drive down the left field line at Fenway, desperately trying to will the ball fair with his arms, is one of baseball’s greatest moments. He debuted in 1969 with the BoSox, going hitless in two games, and was called-up briefly in ’71, hitting .313 in 48 at-bats. It was the 1972 season when Fisk made his big splash in the big leagues, batting .293 with 22 home runs to win A.L. Rookie of the Year honors. He also took home the only Gold Glove award of his 24-year career as a rookie. The original “Pudge” – also known as “The Commander” – would make 11 All-Star teams, hit 376 homers and catch an MLB-record 2,226 games when it was all said and done.

Presented here is Fisk’s game-worn road jersey from his outstanding ’72 rookie campaign. The gray knit V-neck pullover has the proper McAuliffe manufacturer’s tagging sewn on the middle front shirttail in between “1972” and size “43” strip tags. Across the chest reads “BOSTON” and across the back is his “27” player number.” All letters and numbers are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. 1972 was the first year the Red Sox introduced knits, transitioning from flannels mid-season. In fact, Fisk and teammate Carl Yastrzemski debuted their road knits at the 1972 All-Star Game, meaning this very well could be the same shirt Fisk wore in the ‘72 Midsummer classic. (He went 1-for-2 with a run scored.) The jersey shows ample wear throughout with some light spot staining and comes in outstanding condition, earning a perfect A10 grade from MEARS. (Note: A ’72 Fisk road flannel graded 9/10 sold in 2018 ago for $22,226.) This is certainly one of, if not, the finest Fisk gamer you will find in the hobby. Includes LOA from MEARS (A10).
