Long before the line between entertainment and sports started to blur in the modern age the Harlem Globetrotters had managed to all but obliterate the distinction with a mix of consummate showmanship and incredible talent all packaged for a worldwide audience that stayed loyal for many generations. Indeed for millions of youngsters at some point in their lives Meadowlark Lemon may well have been the greatest basketball player in the world. He was known as "The Clown Prince of the Globetrotters" a royal designation he proudly claimed for 22 years and more than 16000 games played on every corner of the Earth. Ultimately he would earn another regal title with his election to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. With such historical weight comes this remarkable Globetrotters jersey worn by Lemon in the 1970's. In a uniform style as recognizable as the heroic figures who wore them this Size 42 blue mesh jersey sports the appropriate Wilson tag on the front-left tail with a hint of fraying visible at one side. The iconic jersey shows good game use but is otherwise problem free and apparently without alterations of any kind. There is minimal fraying of any of the red white or gold stitching around the tackle twill lettering and Lemon's No. 36 front and back. This is truly and extraordinary artifact of significant historical import that spans several collectible areas.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
