This Type 1 photo captures Pete Rose on the field at Cincinnati’s Crosley Field as he accepts the 1969 Batting Championship Award (.348 not only led the league for the '69 season but also the best of Rose's career!). Pete had an incredible year in '69 with career highs in home runs (16), RBIs (82), triples (11), and slugging percentage (.512). Rose beat out a bunt in his second-to-last at-bat of the season which enabled him to edge out Roberto Clemente by .0025 of a point. Rose is decked out in his Reds home uniform and is shown listening intently to the remarks spoken into the microphone by Fred Fleig, secretary-treasurer of the National League. The Type 1 photo shows toning and some edge wear with a small stain in the white border on the upper edge. The Hit King has signed the photo in bold blue marker adding the date “4/19/70” and “Crosley Field 1969 Bat Champ.” The back of the photo has the Clifton Boutelle photographer’s stamp and the original caption slug affixed. This photo has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 photo with 10 Autograph by PSA/DNA.
