The Bergmann-Verlag '70 Mexico World Cup issue is highly sought-after, with card #32 Pelé being the prize of the set. The 4” x 6” card depicts a smiling Pelé in his Brazil National Team kit during the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. Although Pelé vowed never to appear in another World Cup after Brazil’s elimination in 1966, he was convinced to rejoin the National Team for the 1970 Cup. Though he was 30 years old at the time, Pelé scored six goals in Brazil’s six qualifying matches. Brazil met Italy for the final, and Pelé started it off by scoring the first goal, a dramatic header. Brazil won by the score of 4-1, with the team’s final goal remembered as one of the greatest moments in World Cup history. While any example of Pelé’s Bergmann-Verlag card is desirable, this one has been signed on its front by the soccer legend in sharp blue pen. The card has been encapsulated and authenticated by BGS & BAS Dual Authentic.
