A complete 35-card run of the scarce 1969 Topps Deckle Edge set, Topps' short-printed, photograph-style insert issued as a limited test/regional release and notoriously difficult to assemble in full today. Each card features a black-and-white player photo trimmed with a distinctive scalloped, deckled border meant to evoke a vintage snapshot, with the player's facsimile autograph in blue ink stamped across the image and his printed name on the plain white reverse alongside the "No. __ of 33 photos" checklist notation.
This set reads like a who's-who of the era, led off by Brooks Robinson #1, Carl Yastrzemski #4, Luis Aparicio #6, Rod Carew #12, Ron Santo #19, Pete Rose #21, Roberto Clemente #27, Bob Gibson #29, Willie McCovey #31, Juan Marichal #32, and closing with Willie Mays #33, along with Rick Monday and other contemporary stars rounding out the checklist.
Because the Deckle Edge set was distributed in limited fashion compared to Topps' flagship issue, high-grade and complete runs rarely surface intact, and the format's fragile scalloped edges make well-preserved examples especially prized. A terrific, ready-made complete set offering for advanced 1969 collectors, Hall of Fame set builders, or anyone seeking an accessible, visually striking alternative to the standard 1969 Topps issue.
