In 1969 the seven-year-old New York Mets franchise won the World Series by defeating the American League Champion (and highly favored) Baltimore Orioles fours games to one. The "Miracle Mets" closed it out in their home ballpark Shea Stadium in Flushing Meadows Queens. This lot features a beautifully designed 1969 New York Mets World Series Champions 10-karat gold and diamond pendant from that miracle season. It was issued to the wife of New York City Mayoral candidate Mario Procaccino. The front of the pendant includes the Mets logo near the top “WORLD CHAMPIONS 1969” stretched across the middle and a baseball designed with five small diamonds on it. The back of the pendant includes a baseball around which is written “NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS” and the scores of the Mets’ three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves. Across the middle is an engraved dedication that reads: “To MARIA From Bill Shea.” The bottom right corner boasts a Mets cap as part of the design. Presents in outstanding condition.
