Presented here is a Beckett-slabbed ticket stub from the 1969 MLB All-Star Game played at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in Washington, D.C. on July 23, 1969. The game was originally scheduled to be played on July 22, 1969, and was to be the first ASG played at night. But it was rained out, and played the following afternoon, thus being the last day ASG.
1969 was dubbed the Centennial of Baseball, and in connection therewith, MLB announced the All-Time Baseball Team and All-Time Living Baseball Team at the 1969 ASG. At such game, Joe DiMaggio was named the greatest living baseball player, and whenever publicly introduced thereafter sought such designation in connection with the introduction.
One side note regarding the rainout. President Richard Nixon, a very big baseball fan, was supposed to attend the game. But he had to leave Washington, DC the morning of July 23 to fly to Hawaii to greet the returning Apollo 11 astronauts, and Vice President Spiro Agnew filled in at RFK.
