A Dodger since 1956, Don Drysdale came into his own when the team relocated to Los Angeles in 1958. Tall with movie star good looks, Drysdale personified the cool LA Dodgers of the early 1960s. A fierce competitor who was not afraid to throw a batter, Drysdale won 209 games and Cy Young Award and to paired with Sandy Koufax to pitch the Dodgers to three World Championships. All the innings finally caught up with Drysdale during the 1969 season and he suffered a torn rotator cuff injury. Double D called it a career after 12 games and a 5-4 record. He would go on to a successful broadcast career and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1984. Drysdale’s jersey from his last season has the classic “Dodgers” scripted across the chest in blue felt with his number “53” below in red felt. The MLB 100th Anniversary patch is sewn on the left sleeve and the Goodman and Sons label is found on the lower left tail. A strip tag with “Drysdale 46L/4 Set B 69” is sewn below the Goodman label. The back has Drysdale’s number “53” in blue felt. The jersey displays good game use with wash wear visible along with some light staining throughout. There is some puckering to the graphics from laundering and there are loose threads throughout. The jersey appears to be in unaltered original condition and is a shining example of a Don Drysdale gamer. The jersey comes with a full LOA from Sports Investors Authentication. Also included is a Los Angeles Dodgers 1970 Yearbook which includes a nice image of Drysdale possibly donning this exact jersey.
