This is an extraordinary artifact from one of the great Cubbies teams of the postwar era the 1969 squad that elevated hopes for Chicago fans through a tumultuous summer only to have "The Curse" come crashing back to life in the form of their archrivals the New York Mets. That summer proved to belong to the Metsies but this spectacular jersey belongs to the winning bidder and just in time as the Cubs are making noise in the National League about ending that infamous 100-year-plus World Series drought. This handsome pinstriped wool jersey from that almost glorious campaign has the iconic Cubs "Cubs" logo embroidered on the front and the equally famous Bear patch on the left sleeve. The No. 1 is affixed to the back in blue tackle twill and the Major League Baseball Centennial embroidered patch is on the right sleeve. A Wilson tag with Size 44 is on the front left tail above "1969" embroidered in black; "44" has also been handwritten in marker at the back of the collar. The shirt is in superb condition seemingly as-issued and problem free. Handsome black Sharpie autographs from Cubs stars Glenn Beckert Don Kessinger Billy Williams and Randy Hundley appear on the right front of the shirt along with famed broadcaster Jack Brickhouse; Hall of Famer Ron Santo and Gene Oliver have signed in the same fashion above the Cubs patch on the left side with the final signature of Paul Popovich below. Beckert Williams Hundley and Santo each added inscriptions of their uniform numbers. This is truly a wonderful Cubbies piece from a golden and bittersweet season almost a half-century ago.
