1969-70 Johnny Bench autographed Adirondack Big Stick Professional Model 220A bat game used by the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame catcher during his dominant MVP season. On the barrel Bench has signed "Johnny Bench MVP 1970" in 8-9/10 black felt tip pen. "220A" is stamped into top of knob. Bench's number "5" is written in black marker also on top of knob. Flamed Burned Ash bat measures 35.5 inches and weighs 31 ounces. Bat displays evidence of very heavy use with a slight crack on the handle and knob which has been repaired. Some checking (grain swelling) from repeated ball contact is visible on the back barrel. Many ball marks and ball stitch impressions are evident on the barrel. Bench's use of Adirondack bats was almost exclusively limited to the early portion of his career. Another interesting aspect of this bat is the seldom seen use of Johnny's abridged "John Bench" name labeling on the barrel. In 1970 Johnny Bench led the league with 45 homers and 148 RBI to win his first MVP award. He lead the Cincinnati Reds to the pennant and was as defensively dominant as any catcher has ever been. The ten-time Gold Glove winner redefined the catching position setting a standard by which all catchers who followed him have attempted in vain to meet. This is a very attractive Johnny Bench gamer from early in his Hall of Fame career!
