In 1968 former New York Mets General Manager Bob Scheffing was serving as the teams Director of Player Development. Still one year away from winning it all the Mets managed by Gil Hodges finished the regular season with a record of 73-89 which placed them a distant ninth in the National League standings. Scheffing would take over as GM in 1970 following the sudden death of Johnny Murphy. This lot features a beautifully designed 1968 New York Mets Girard-Perregaux wristwatch that was issued to Scheffings wife Mary. The face of the watch which is in fine working condition features the New York Mets logo at the center with the numbers 12 3 6 and 9 representing the dial. Everything is original with the exception of the brown lizard-skin band which has been replaced.
Includes Letter of Provenance from Bob Scheffing's son.
