The Topps 1968 Football set consists of 219 cards, each measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2”. The set was issued in two series and was the first set since Topps’ 1961 edition to feature players from the AFL (including the debut of the Cincinnati Bengals) and the NFL. Each card features a color player photo atop a solid background, with the respective team logo fixed at the upper corner and the athlete’s name, team affiliation and position identified in an elongated circle at the bottom of the card. Cards for players from the previous year's Super Bowl teams - the Green Bay Packers and the Oakland Raiders – were printed with a horizontal design to set them apart from the rest of the set. Cards for players from these two teams also carry color borders with the player photo superimposed over a yellow-tined action scene. The set features the rookie cards of Jim Hart (#60), Jim Nance (#72), Craig Morton (#155), Floyd Little (#173) and Bob Griese (#196). The second series (#132-219) - which includes the cards of George Blanda (#142), Jack Kemp (#149), Frank Tarkenton (#161) and Mike Ditka (#162) as well as Morton, Little and Griese - is slightly more difficult to obtain than the first series. The 1968 Topps set also marked the start of a 21-year run of that manufacturer being the only major producer of football trading cards.

The Topps 1969 Football set consists of 263 cards, each measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2”. The set was issued in two series, with the first series (#s 1-132) printed without borders and the second series (#s 133-263) printed with white borders. With the exception of that difference, each card front features a posed player portrait with a solid color background; the player's name, team logo and name, and position are identified along the bottom border. The backs are black with a green-and-white accent, with ten cards from the second series fitting together to form a Fran Tarkenton puzzle. The set is anchored by the only regular issue card - and rookie card - of Brian Piccolo (#26), as well as key cards of Gale Sayers (#51), Don Meredith (#75), Joe Namath (#100), Dick Butkus (#139) and Bart Starr (#215), plus the rookie card of Larry Csonka (#120). The lack of borders makes the first series especially difficult to find in high grade, with the checklist card (#132) found both with and without borders.
