Richie Dick Allen was a pivotal ground-breaking big league player. He played first and third base as well as outfield and was ranked among the leagues top offensive producers of the 1960s and early 1970s. Most notably playing for the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox he led the American League in home runs twice and led both leagues in slugging average (the A.L. twice) and on-base percentage. His first season in the majors 1964 ranks among the greatest rookie seasons ever. Playing for the Phillies he led the league in runs (125) triples (13) extra base hits (80) and total bases (352). He also finished in the top five in batting average (.318) slugging average (.557) hits (201) and doubles (38) and won Rookie of the Year honors. His .534 career slugging average ranks among the highest in an era marked by low averages. In 1972 he was named A.L. MVP.

This lot includes Allens autographed and game-worn 1967 Phillies jersey. That season he batted .307 with 23 home runs and 77 runs batted in. He also earned his third straight All-Star Game selection. The Wilson (size 42) red-pinstriped flannel jersey shows wear and includes the "Wilson 42" and wash label tag on the left front tail. On the inside collar of the jersey is stitched "Allen 67" in navy blue onto a sewn-on nameplate indicating the player and the season in which it was worn. The distinctive Phillies team name with stars over the is is stitched across the front of the jersey in red embroidered cursive lettering outlined in white. The same holds true for Allens iconic uniform number 15 on the back of the jersey. Considerable shrinkage and some fraying is evident in both areas. The 15-year major leaguer has autographed the jersey on the right front tail in black felt-tip marker. The signature rate 8-9/10 in our book. A classic piece of sports memorabilia from one of the leagues most-about-about players.
