In 1967 the reigning NFL Champion Green Bay Packers embarked on yet another championship season by posting a 9-4-1 regular-season mark before defeating the L.A. Rams (28-7) Dallas Cowboys (21-17) and Oakland Raiders (33-14) in succession to win their second straight Super Bowl title. Coached by the late great Vince Lombardi the Packers were simply the league’s toughest team and were well on their way to cementing Green Bay’s well deserved nickname of “Titletown USA.”
This lot features a multi-signed game program from the Packers’ seventh win of the ’67 season against the visiting San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field. Posting their second shutout of the season the Packers throttled the Niners 13-0. A one-yard rushing touchdown by Donny Anderson and a pair of field goals by Don Chandler accounted for Green Bay’s offensive output that day. The 64-page program which boasts largely black-and-white content with some spot color on the covers and inside sports a 49ers’-themed water-colored cover complete with a trolley car and the Golden Gate Bridge represented.
The cover of the program features 25 signatures from various Packers’ players in blue ink including Hall of Famers Forrest Gregg and Bart Starr as well as standouts such as Anderson Chandler and Jerry Kramer. On the back cover are the scrawls (also in blue ink) of the legendary Lombardi as well as Willie Wood and Lee Roy Caffey. Though sporting several creases and some small tears he condition of the 50-year-old program is good based on its age and its significance is certainly noteworthy based on the season in which it was printed.
