This is a truly fascinating National Basketball Association souvenir program from 1965 24 pages in black and with spot red color on the front and back covers showcasing drawings of 10 NBA "All-Stars" done in lithographers crayon along with an 11th of Maurice Stokes who is also the subject of a brief article on the back cover. Four autographs appear next to their respective drawings: Elgin Baylor (black Sharpie) Tom Heinsohn (ballpoint) Sam Jones (ballpoint with inscriptions) and Lenny Wilkens. The article on the back cover details some of Stoke's heroic struggles in the ensuing seven years since March 12 1958 in the last game of the regular 1957“58 NBA season in Minneapolis when he drove to the basket drew contact fell to the floor struck his head and lost consciousness. Stokes was revived with smelling salts and returned to the game. Three days later after a 12-point 15-rebound performance in an opening-round playoff game at Detroit against the Pistons he became ill on the team's flight back to Cincinnati; "I feel like I'm going to die" he told a teammate. He later suffered a seizure fell into a coma and was left permanently paralyzed. In the end he was diagnosed with post-traumatic encephalopathy a brain injury that damaged his motor-control center." During the years that followed Stokes was supported by his lifelong friend and teammate Jack Twyman who became his legal guardian to help him pay his medical bills. A photo copy of a letter from Twyman is included with the program where he thanks an unnamed individual for contributing to the Stokes Fund. The souvenir program is in essentially Ex to Ex-Mt and is basically in problem-free condition.
