The 1964 Philadelphia Gum Company football set consists of 198 cards, each measuring 2.5" x 3,5". This inaugural effort marked the company’s attempt to break the stronghold held by Topps in the football trading card market. The colorful cards feature a posed NFL player likeness set within a white border; the bottom border area carries the player’s name, team affiliation, and position. Card backs feature the player’s name, team name, position, number (set within a football helmet silhouette), a brief paragraph of text, and a trivia question with an illustration.

This set is anchored by Johnny Unitas (#12), Mike Ditka (#17), Jim Brown (#30), Bob Lilly (#48), Don Meredith (#51), Paul Hornung (#74), Bart Starr (#79), Fran Tarkenton (#109) and Frank Gifford (#117). The key rookie cards in this set include John Mackey (#3), Herb Adderley (#71), Willie Davis (#72), Merlin Olsen (#91), and Jim Johnson (#161).This offered set includes 113 examples graded PSA NM-MT 8 or higher.
