This is a simply stunning artifact from more than a half-century ago a lovely Team USA parade coat from the 1964 Winter Olympic Games held in Innsbruck Austria. In an era when the United States had yet to assert itself forcefully in winter sports it was the USSR Norway and host nation Austria that combined to dominate the proceedings dividing (not equally) more than 50 medals between them. The USSR easily outpaced the rest of the world winning 25 medals overall with Norway (15) second and Austria third (12) respectively.

This heavy cream-colored wool coat presents in superb condition with light wear from being donned by a U.S. athlete in the parade. The size 44 coat has the elegant "Lakeland Sportswear Parade Coat" tagging at the back of the collar sewn atop the heavy blue plush lining. The label also notes: "Parade Coat selected for wear by the U.S. Olympic Team IX Winter Olympic Games Innsbruck Austria - 1964." The coat has silk-lined sleeve interiors five buttons down the front and the USA embroidered emblem patch on the front left breast. A thick knitted collar in cream blue and red is seemingly in matching condition to the rest of the coat as are the side pocket design configurations. Despite the notoriously delicate nature of wool coats especially ones 52 years old we can find only the tiniest fabric loss in the form of minuscule dots along with one small hole from wear on the back tail and about an inch of stitching separation at the base of the back. What a truly scarce Team USA coat worn in the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics parade from an era well before the event became a television behemoth around the globe!
