The late Bo Belinsky was a one-of-a-kind pitcher who started his roller-coaster career in the major leagues with the Los Angeles Angels. On May 5 1962 when Major League Baseball was only in its fifth year on the west coast Belinsky threw a 2-0 no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles for his fourth straight victory of his rookie season. It was the first no-hit game pitched in the majors in California and the strapping 6’ 2” southpaw did it at the newly opened Dodger Stadium--or Chavez Ravine as it was called by the Angels who shared it with the Dodgers. He started the 1962 season 6-1 but was 10-11 when it ended. In 1963 his record fell to 2-9. The following season Belinsky went 9-8 with a 2.86 earned run average. During his time in L.A. Belinsky was linked to many different Hollywood starlets and was even engaged to Mamie Van Doren.

This lot features Belinsky’s signed and inscribed 1964 Los Angeles Angels game worn home jersey. The L.A. Angels home white flannel has its sleeve endings and collar trimmed with a red/navy blue braid. The Spalding manufacturer’s tag appears on the inside rear collar with a washing instructions tag located onthe inside front left tail. On the outside of the front left tail is attractive blue chain stitching that reads “Belinsky 44 64” to reflect the player size and season. The jersey front sports the team name “Angels” in old English fontwith red felt on navy blue. The back of the jersey reveals number “36” in red felt on navy blue. The well-worn jersey which shows slight staining in the front is in solid overall condition. Belinsky signed the front of the jersey in black fine-point marker and added the inscription: “5/5/62 No-hitter.” A terrific gamer from one pitcher who really knew how to put on a show!
