It took way too long, but Richie "Dick" Allen was finally voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and will be inducted at the 2025 ceremony in Cooperstown, NY on July 27th. Unfortunately, it will be done posthumously after perennial All-Star slugger known as "Crash" passed away in 2020.

The Philadelphia Phillies called up the PA native late in 1963, and in his first full season Allen won '64 NL Rookie of the Year honors with a.318 average, 29 HR, 91 RBI, 201 hits and a league-leading 125 runs scored. The third baseman was versatile enough to move around the infield and played some left field as well throughout his career. He made his biggest impact as a Philly, making three straight NL All-Star teams (1965-67) and blasting 40 homers in '66. Although, his lone MVP came with the Chicago White Sox in 1972 when he led the AL in HR, RBI, BB, and OBP. His .534 career slug % ranks among the highest in a pitcher-friendly era.

Featured here is Dick Allen's Adirondack '194VP' pro model bat from the 1964-67 era, in which he won Rookie of the Year and made three straight All Star Game appearances. One thing to note is the 36" length and 36.2 ounce weight of this hefty lumber. At 5' 11" and 190 pounds, Allen was rock-solid and country strong, allowing him to swing one of the heaviest bats in the league. The ash bat shows outstanding use with a handle crack and slight grain swelling from repeated ball contact on the back barrel. John Taube of PSA/DNA gave the bat a GU 8.5 assessment for the use.
