Santos Futebol Clube, known better as Santos FC and nicknamed the Peixe [fish], is the most decorated football club in Brazil with a history and legacy richer than any of the legendary players who have donned their black and white kits. Many are pictured here in this offered original photograph. Penciled on the reverse "Santos F.C. Campeón Libertadores 1963", this team photo captures Os Santásticos in their prime. "The Santastics", as the Portuguese translates, are still viewed by many as the greatest professional soccer dynasty of all time, winning a mind-blowing 24 titles during the 1960's including five consecutive Brasileirões (Brazilian first division league titles). Standing left to right are Dalmo, Zito, Geraldinho, Calvet, Gilmar (goalkeeper) and Mauro. Crouched (L-R) are Dorval, Lima, Coutinho, Pelé and Pepe.

Founded in 1912, S.F.C. reached an apex in the 1960's thanks in large part to Pelé, but he certainly was not the only Brazilian foot masters to shine. Mauro [Ramos] was the best sweeper in the world, perhaps ever according to some. Coutinho was a dominant striker with 368 career goals for Santos, nicknamed "genius of the small area" for his masterful skill in tight space. Left winger Pepe tallied 405 goals in 750 career games for the club (second only to the Pelé's 618). Gilmar was voted best Brazilian goalkeeper of the 20th century by the IFFHS, starting in goal for Seleção in three straight World Cups (1958, '62 & '66). Midfielder Zito was the primary captain for Os Santásticos. The 11 men were part of Brazil's 1962 FIFA World Cup triumph and several were members of the '58 WC champion squad as well. Few original photos of this worshipped group come up for auction, and this 7" x 9.5" beauty remains in oustanding condition with exceptional clarity, straight edges, angled corners and very little, if any, surface issues to speak of. Encapsulated as Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
