This exquisite 1963 jersey was worn by Naismith Hall of Famer Bob Pettit for the West squad in the 1963 NBA All-Star game. On January 16, 1963, the East beat the West, 115-108, in front of 14,838 at Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Pettit started at power forward for the West, leading his team in scoring with 25 points and also pulling down 13 rebounds. Bill Russell won MVP honors by grabbing 24 boards and scoring 19 points of his own.

During the 1962-63 season, Bob Pettit averaged 28.4 points, 15.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game for the St. Louis Hawks, leading his team to a second-place finish in the Western Division with a 48-32 record. The Hawks would fall to the L.A. Lakers in the finals of the West playoffs after a tough seven-game battle.

The classic hoops jersey is constructed in white durene material with royal blue trim and three blue stars positioned around the arched red "WEST" lettering on the chest. Pettit's number "9" appears front and back in large red twill numerals outlined in blue, with "PETTIT" arched on the back in blue twill letters. Pettit has signed and inscribed the jersey in blue ink across the lower front, reading "This jersey was worn by me in an N.B.A. All-Star game," followed by his full name autograph. The vintage jersey exhibits solid wear with scattered surface toning and light sweat staining, with the stars, lettering, and trim all-original and fully intact.

The provenance of this special piece of basketball history is certainly worth mentioning. Our consignor's grandfather owned a big-and-tall clothing store in St. Louis frequented by many Hawks players including Pettit. As a token of gratitude, Pettit gifted his grandpa his '63 All-Star worn jersey (as well as a pair of NBA game-worn Converse sneakers that the consignor has decided to keep).

The jersey has been authenticated by MEARS with a perfect A10 grade. Longtime autograph expert Steve Grad has certified Pettit's signatures and inscription.
