In June of 1962, Cosmopolitan magazine commissioned photographer George Barris to shoot Marilyn Monroe in and around Los Angeles. Barris captured the movie star in many different locations in and around Los Angeles. At one point the two went to the beach where Monroe wore a comfortable wool sweater and posed in the sand for Barris’s camera. This shot features a playful looking and smiling Monroe gazing into the camera, and ultimately the viewer. The relaxed surroundings and Monroe’s easy smile depict another, more personal and approachable side of the woman often described as the “most desired woman in the world.”

This candid photo was taken by George Barris in 1962 in what was to be Monroe’s final photo shoot. It wwas sourced from the collection of Kim Goodwin, a Hollywood makeup artist and Marilyn Monroe photography collector. The Type 1 photo has strong edges and light toning from age. George Barris has signed his name in the lower left corner in black fountain pen. The back of the photo has a “Property of Kim Goodwin” stamp and shows overall toning throughout. The photo has been encapsulated as Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
