In the realm of baseball memorabilia, few images resonate as profoundly as that of Sandy Koufax, the legendary pitcher known for his remarkable prowess on the mound. Captured in a striking Type 1 original photograph from the Associated Press, this portrait dates back to August 29, 1961, a significant moment in Koufax's illustrious career.

The photograph was taken in Chicago, just after Koufax delivered a stellar performance against the Chicago Cubs, allowing only two hits during the game. This achievement not only solidified his reputation as a dominant force in Major League Baseball but also added to the legacy of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team he represented throughout his career.

This particular image stands out for its clarity and composition. While it shows some signs of handling wear, characteristic of news service photos from that era, the central image remains crisp and engaging. The left edge displays a slight waviness, a common trait of photographs produced for media coverage in the 1960s.

On the reverse side of the photo, collectors will find a treasure trove of historical context. Handwritten editorial notes provide insights into the significance of the event, while a news clipping featuring multiple date stamps from 1961 to 1966 adds to its authenticity and narrative depth. Additionally, a modern barcode label affixed to the right edge indicates the photo’s recent cataloging for collectors.

Measuring approximately 7 inches by 9 inches, this photograph is encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
