A complete 33-card set of the 1961 Golden Press "Baseball Hall of Fame" issue, a beautifully illustrated tribute set distributed at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and one of the more historically significant releases of the era. Each card presents a vividly colored, hand-painted style portrait of an inducted Hall of Famer alongside his nickname, primary teams, and years active, paired on the reverse with a detailed narrative summarizing his career highlights, full lifetime statistics, and his year of induction.
The checklist assembled here reads as a roll call of the game's earliest and most legendary honorees, including Babe Ruth #3, Ty Cobb #25, Walter Johnson #29, Honus Wagner #32, Cy Young #33, Lou Gehrig #16, Tris Speaker #30, Rogers Hornsby #7, Jimmie Foxx #22, Christy Mathewson #24, Joe DiMaggio #9, Dizzy Dean #8, Grover Cleveland Alexander #2, Carl Hubbell #6, and Mel Ott #1, among others, capturing the sport's founding Hall of Fame classes in a single cohesive set.
Produced in relatively limited quantities and sold as a novelty at the Hall of Fame itself, complete examples are challenging to assemble today and hold tremendous crossover appeal to both vintage card collectors and Cooperstown memorabilia enthusiasts. A wonderful, museum-quality complete set for any serious baseball history collection.
