Circa 1961-66 Houston Oilers road jersey game worn by Hall of Fame Quarterback George Blanda during his 7 year tenure with the team and originating directly from his own collection. After starting only 23 games the previous 10 years with the Chicago Bears Blanda finally got his chance with the Houston Oilers of the new American Football League. Over the next 7 years from 1960 through 1966 he started 82 games threw or ran for 165 touchdowns kicked 23 field goals and passed for over 19000 yards. Blanda led the Oilers to their first of 2 consecutive AFL Championships in 1960 and 1961 being named the AFL Player of the Year for 1961. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1981. Red applique number 16 screened to front back and sleeves in red. This style is appropriate to the era. Champion Knitwear Co. size 50 tag sewn into front tail. Faded tag of some sort or piece of vintage athletic tape affixed to left rear tail. Jersey exhibits light but distinguishable game wear. In the Mears LOA they state that this is one of only 3 pre-1966 Oilers jerseys known to exist and the only Oilers George Blanda on record. A true rarity.
Comes with a 7/8/2005 signed LOA from George Blanda.
