While playing basketball for Niagara University Larry Costello blossomed into an excellent basketball player and took those skills with him to the NBA where he played with both Philadelphia and Syracuse. He played in five all-star games and coached the 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks to a World Championship. This jersey was worn by Costello during 1963 when he returned to the 76ers after a short stay in Syracuse. On the left front tail is the "Pearson" manufacturers tag. Next to this is a white felt patch reading "34 40 61" in blue chain stitch. This denotes player number size and year (see below) respectively. Across the front is the team name "Phila" and below is the player No. 34 which also appears on the back. The letters and numbers are done in red tackle twill affixed with wide blue stitch with considerable puckering visible on the numerals front and back most notably. The jersey shows nice game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The front has been signed "Larry Costello 1st Phila Jersey." When Costello returned to Philadelphia in 1963 he was given this shirt which is tagged 1961 and it represents the first shirt he used after re-joining the team. It originates directly from Costello.
