The cap includes a custom hard shell insert provided foradded protection. A Tim McAuliffe tag with "Pro KM Cap" and "7" isprinted inside back of headband. Cap exhibits heavy game use especiallyaround the inside of head band. Displays beautifully from the outsidewith good color and the bill is unbroken. Includes a Letter ofProvenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.Additional LOA from MEARS.

Provenance: The Helms Athletic Foundation was a Los Angeles-based sports organization founded in 1936 by W.R. “Bill” Schroeder, a private sports memorabilia collector, and Paul Helms, the owner of the once famed Helms Bakery, which was the “official baker” of the 1932 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games. Schroeder started collecting various sports artifacts in 1932 with the dream of one day sharing them for public viewing. His vision became a reality when Helms agreed to sponsor the venture. The foundation operated halls of fame for professional football, Major League Baseball, the Pacific Coast League, basketball, fencing, golf, tennis, swimming, auto racing, and track and field. Located on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, Helms Hall was among the first public sports museums in the US. Although the museum eventually relocated in the early ‘80s to smaller venues in west Los Angeles, the collection continued to be maintained and well preserved. When the Helms Foundation dissolved, its historical holdings were absorbed into the collection of the Amateur Athletic Foundation, renamed the LA84 Foundation in 2007.
