The 1959 Pittsburgh Pirates finished the season with an overall record of 78-76 which was good enough for a fourth place finish in the National League standings. Managed by Danny Murtaugh the team was just one season away from winning it all via an exciting four-games-to-three victory over the vaunted New York Yankees in the 1960 Fall Classic. This lot features a team-signed baseball from the 59 squad. The official National League (Giles) baseball boasts 29 signatures from the team including eventual Hall of Fame right fielder Roberto Clemente on the sweet spot. Other notable signatures all in blue ink include Bill Virdon Dick Groat Bill Mazeroski Don Hoak Rocky Nelson Dick Schofield and Bob Skinner. PSA/DNA has deemed the Murtaugh signature on the sweet spot to be Clubhouse. A great piece of Pirates memorabilia on the cusp of greatness!
