Right-handed pitcher Carl Erskine was a Dodger his entire career spanning 1948-59from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. An important part of five National League pennant-winnersincluding Brooklyn’s only title in 1955 Erskine was one of the most reliable startersin the Dodgers’ famed rotation from 1951-56 earning 92 wins versus 58 losses andmaking the ‘54 All-Star team. His career-best 20-win season in ’53 was highlightedby a then-World Series record 14-strikeout performance in a classic 1-0 victoryover the Yankees in Game 3. Offered here is Erskine’s game-worn road flannel uniformfrom his final big-league season in 1959 when he went out in style as the L.A. Dodgerswon their first title on the West Coast.
Erskine’s gray button down jersey from the Dodgers World Championship seasonof 1959 features "Los Angeles" applied in classic Dodger blue feltlettering across the chest with his No. “17” in red felt on the front andrepeated in blue on the back. Spalding size 42 tagging appears on the leftfront tail with “Erskine” and “59” chain-stitched in blue below. Just inside thefront tail are the washing instruction with a "Set 1 1959" flag tag. Thematching gray pants are tagged by MacGregor inside the front waistline withsize 34 indicated. Adjacent is a “Set 1 1959” strip tag. A white fabric striptag with “Eskine 34 24” (waist and length) chain-stitched in blue is sewninside the rear. The completely original and unaltered uniform exhibits solid wear overall with moderate pilling and faint color fading. The pants have one small hole on the back right leg that appears to have been caused by sliding or other game use tendency. Both articles are remarkably well-preserved with no moth damage of any kind.
Includes a 11/12/2012 LOA signed by Carl Erskine himself.
