Southpaw Warren Spahn was one of Major League’s Baseball greatest pitchers who also just happened to fight for his country in World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart after seeing action in the “Battle of the Bulge.” Originally pitching for the Boston Braves Spahn moved with the team to Milwaukee in 1953 and continued his winning ways. Pitching in 21 MLB seasons Spahn retired after the ’65 season with a record of 363-245 which included an incredible 382 complete games to his credit. In fact Spahn led the National League in nine different seasons in complete games. This lot features his 1958 Milwaukee Braves game-worn road pants a season in which he posted a 22-11 record with 23 complete games and 150 strikeouts over 290 inning pitched.

The size 36 gray flannel pants include proper Wilson manufacturer’s tagging on the inside front waistband area positioned just above a washing instructions tag. A separate gray cloth tag chain-stitched in red reading “Spahn 1958” is located on the inside rear of the pants just below the waistband. The Braves’ black-and-red piping runs down the outside of both pant legs and around three belt loops on the waist band. The pants show good game use with some dirt staining evident on the right knee and left thigh areas. Two small moth-eaten holes can be found on the front of the pants. Three original buttons (two back pockets and one just above the zipper) remain intact. A great piece of game-worn baseball memorabilia from one of the most successful and durable pitchers in the game’s history.

Part of the esteemed Delbert Mickel estate collection.
