Nice complete set of 1958 Topps Baseball offered here in mid-grade condition with five key cards freshly graded by SGC. All 494 cards are present. Measuring 2-1/2" by 3-1/2", this set was the first to carry subsets (identified as “Sport Magazine All-Stars") and includes many variations (33 cards between #s 2-108 with player or team names in either yellow or white lettering). Highlights include Ted Williams (#1), Willie Mays (#5), Hank Aaron (#30), Roberto Clemente (#52), Al Kaline (#70), Mickey Mantle (#150) and Sandy Koufax (#187), plus the rookie cards of Roger Maris and Orlando Cepeda (recently deceased).
Besides the two Mantles, Clemente, Aaron and Maris RC already slabbed, this set presents many more grading opportunities, particularly Mays, Koufax and Ted, whose lead-off number in the checklist was prone to rubber-banding and over-handling. A super tough set to collect in anything better than low-grade condition due to the off-centering and notoriously dirty or toned borders.
