Few people in baseball history have had as long and as distinguished a life in the game as Tony Kubek. He evolved from a well-regarded young shortstop on one of baseball's greatest dynasties to become one of its most familiar voices, broadcasting for 30 years on NBC and earning the 2009 Ford C. Frick Award for his efforts. Kubek's education in the game with the Yankees helped him perfect his craft on air, and his fine playing career made him a three-time World Series champion. Presented here is Kubek’s pinstriped Yankees flannel worn during his 1957 Rookie of the Year season as well as his sophomore '58 campaign when he made his first All-Star team and helped the Yanks win the World Series.
On the left front tail is the Spalding manufacturer’s tag with adjacent size “44” flag tag. Directly below is “Kubek 34 57” embroidered in navy blue chain stitch indicating player name, number and jersey year, respectively. The interior left front tail also features supplemental tagging with laundry instructions as well as year/set tagging. Kubek has autographed inside the rear collar in blue marker. According to SGC, the iconic interlocking “NY” logo on the left breast and Kubek's player number “10” on back have been restored. Kubek wore #34 as a rookie and then switched to #10 in '58, leading SGC to believe he wore both years.
SGC uniform authenticator Dave Grob has assessed the usage as “moderate to moderate/heavy” and assigned the jersey an overall grade of Very Good (VG), which is the third highest rating achievable on their 6-point scale. A copy of Grob’s detailed analysis is included. LOA from SGC/Dave Grob (VG). An hang tag on the inside of the jersey has a MEARS hologram sticker (cert. # 314478).
