In 1956 Topps entered the football card market thanks to their acquisition of their long-time competitor, Bowman. Topps’ first NFL issue consisted of 120 cards featuring a portrait or action shot of the players positioned on a bright colored background, topped off with a contrasting colored bar with the players name, position, and team. It’s a simple but very eye catching design that makes a great inaugural set for Topps. This near complete set – 108 of 120 cards – has been meticulously assembled of solely high-grade examples. Among the key cards included in this lot are the Lenny Moore rookie card (PSA 7), Y.A. Tittle (PSA 8), Stan Jones (SGC 9), along with examples of both the 1 cent and 5 cent wax pack wrappers. 106 of the 108 cards in this near complete set have been professionally graded, making the ideal jumping off point for one seeking to complete a set of Topps first NFL issue. Also includes all five contest cards, with the Contest Card 2 (Steelers) graded SGC NM 7.
