1956 was Mickey Mantle’s finest season. The xxx year-old Yankees star put up Hall of Fame numbers that summer, leading the AL with a .353 batting average, 52 homers, and 130 RBI, winning the coveted Triple Crown. He was the obvious choice for the AL MVP Award, and The Mick would cap off what he called “My Favorite Summer” by winning a World Series with the Yankees. This photo, taken mid-way through the ’56 season, captures Mickey’s devastating swing before an overflowing crowd in Yankee Stadium. The Type 1 image has wide white borders. There are creases in the left and right bottom borders, and a larger one in the upper left. The reverse has a “Jun 27 1956” date stamp and the original Arthur Rickerby credit/caption slug affixed. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.
