Following their storybook 1955 championship — the only World Series title the Brooklyn Dodgers would ever win before the franchise's move to Los Angeles — the club celebrated with this 1956 Dodgers Year Book, its cover a cartoon caricature of a Brooklyn "Bum" cutting a ribbon reading "6" beneath a banner proclaiming "World Champions 1955." This example has been signed in blue ink by more than a dozen members of that beloved team and organization, with clearly legible autographs including Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, team captain Pee Wee Reese, Gil Hodges, Jim Gilliam, manager Walt Alston, pitchers Sal Maglie and Clem Labine, Roger Craig, and longtime broadcaster Vin Scully, among others. Signed team publications from the "Boys of Summer" era are exceedingly difficult to assemble given the number of Hall of Famers and beloved figures on the 1955-56 Dodgers roster, and yearbooks signed in period by this many members of the team rarely surface. The booklet shows expected wear from age and handling — light soiling and a touch of cover toning — but the signatures remain strong, bold, and consistent with an in-person clubhouse or spring training signing from the era. A wonderful centerpiece for any Brooklyn Dodgers or Jackie Robinson collection, tying together one of baseball's most beloved teams with the World Championship that finally silenced "Wait 'til next year."
