The 1955-56 Philadelphia Warriors turned in a championship effort. With George Senesky taking over for Eddie Gottlieb as head coach the Warriors enjoyed a strong start to the season by winning 12 of their first 16 games. Forward Paul Arizin (24.2 points per game) and center Neil Johnston (22.1) were among the league's scoring leaders as the Warriors captured the Eastern Division title with a 4527 record. The addition of rookie small forward Tom Gola (10 points nine rebounds and six assists per game) from LaSalle University seem to also make a big difference. In the Eastern Division Finals the Warriors beat the Syracuse Nationals in five games before moving on to the NBA Finals where they won their second championship by beating the Fort Wayne Pistons four games to one.
This lot features a 1955-56 Philadelphia Warriors 14K gold NBA championship ring. The size 13 ring sports a 2-point diamond on its basketball shaped top. On one shank the ring reads "PHILA WARRIORS 55-56" while "NBA WORLD CHAMPS" is proudly indicated on the other. "14K" is stamped on the inside. No manufacturer or player name is stamped on the inside of the ring. A memorable piece of championship jewelry from the first decade of the NBA.
The only other one of these rings we have seen sold for $11404 in our May 2012 Auction.
