Offered here is a fascinating three-page handwritten letter by Hall of Famer Ty Cobb (1886-1961) dated March 29th 1954 on Tyrus R. Cobb stationary. In the letter Cobb responds in his trademark green ink to an inquirer regarding Cobb’s thoughts on the Hall of Fame and his personal baseball memorabilia. Here are some of the better excerpts:

"I have often wondered did many or anyone observe what I saw and knew to be so plainly shown per New York sports writers (some) in their apparent desire to get good old Babe a place ahead of me?...I happened to be the first voted in also by the all but 2 or 4 votes of either 224 or 226 total this of course you may never see from the N.Y. boys (again I say not all)…No one was more sentimental of gloves shoes uniforms etc. than I and I kept many but also I had three boys and they had many playmates etc. in Augusta Ga where I lived these baseball things were not under lock & key..."

Cobb's handwriting is exceptional (8-9/10 boldness throughout) as is his signature at the end in 9/10 green ink. This is certainly one of the more lengthy unique and hobby-relevant Cobb letters ever offered given his memorabilia references and mention of Babe Ruth.
