ADDENDUM: There are 14 cards graded by PSA and two raw dupliicates (Snider & Doby).
Presented here and fresh-to-the-hobby is this terrific, evenly matched 1954 Topps Baseball complete set (250) with most cards falling in the VG to EX range. We've recently graded 14 key rookies and stars including the big three of Aaron, Banks and Kaline, as well as both Teds, Mays, Jackie, etc. Our consignor built this set totally from scratch as a young collector, pulling the majority of these out of '54 Topps packs or trading with friends, and kept them in a three-ring binder for over half a century.
Here are the graded examples:
#128 Henry Aaron RC - PSA VG 3, #94 Ernie Banks RC- PSA GOOD 2, #201 Al Kaline RC- PSA VG-EX 4, #10 Jackie Robinson - PSA VG-EX 4 (MC), #90 Willie Mays - PSA GOOD 2, #1 Ted Williams - PSA VG 3, #250 Ted Williams - PSA VG-EX 4, #32 Duke Snider - PSA VG-EX 4, #102 Gil Hodges - PSA VG-EX+ 4.5, #3 Monte Irvin - PSA VG+ 3.5, #45 Richie Ashburn - PSA EX-MT 6, #36 Hoyt Wilhelm - PSA EX 5, #70 Larry Doby - PSA VG 3 and #205 Johnny Sain - PSA VG-EX 4.
Some grading observartions...Aaron's rookie card is undergraded and appears more VG-EX (or EX eye appeal on the front). The MC qualifier on Jackie is a bit harsh; we feel it deserves just OC. Mays is more VG than GD. And if Sain is just VG-EX, maybe these new grading standards are getting a bit in-Sain.
Ungraded cards are mostly VG to EX as mentioned, but the majority of these are at least VG-EX to EX+ in our opinion with some possibly EX-MT (no guarantee what SGC or PSA will grade these): #38 Eddie Stanky, #39 Sherm Lollar, #44 Ned Garver, #183 Earle Combs, #43 Dick Groat, #40 Mel Parnell, #217 Paul Schreiber, #185 Chuck Stobbs, #27 Ferris Fain, #31 Johnny Klippstein, #33 Johnny Schmitz, #35 Junior Gilliam, #34 Jim Rivera, #23 Luke Easter, #21 Bobby Shantz, #12 Del Crandall, #15 Al Rosen,#18 Walt Dropo, #4 Hank Sauer, #5 Ed Lopat, #9 Harvey Haddix, #8 Bobby Young, #9 Pete Runnels, #190 Ray Herbert, #13 Billy Martin, #132 Tom Lasorda and #30 Ed Mathews, plus duplicates of #70 Larry Doby and #32 Duke Snider.
Other noteable cards in FR to GD condition are: #17 Phil Rizzuto, #20 Warren Spahn, #50 Yogi Berra and #37 Whitey Ford.
