The offered 35 inch 34.4 ounce Hillerich & Bradsby model SlOO Jackie Robinson professional model bat is uncracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use with several ball marks and ball stitch impressions visible on the right left and back barrel. Cleat marks are visible on the right and left barrel and there is a light coat of pine tar on the handle. Slight checking (grain separation) from repeated ball contact is visible on the left and back barrel. The model number (S100) is stamped into the knob which shows subtle evidence of a chip that has been repaired. The bat originates directly from a third generation Brooklyn Dodgers fan that grew up in the shadow of Ebbets Field in the mid 1950's. A letter from our consignor states that his uncle a catholic priest in the Brooklyn diocese for 50 years on at least one occasion took him into the Dodger clubhouse area to meet some players including Jackie. Though he does not directly recall obtaining the bat in person it was an omnipresent heirloom within his family for as long as he can remember. A review of Jackie Robinson's Professional Bat Ordering Record (PBOR) on file at Louisville Slugger Inc. confirms his orders of S100 models on March 11 March 13 and June 2 1953. All three of these orders call for 35 inch bats weighing 35 ounces.

Even though they lost the World Series to their rival Yankees the 1953 Dodgers are arguably the greatest Brooklyn club in history. Robinsons .329 average and explosive baserunning exploits were a major catalyst in a dynamic lineup. Storming through the 53 season the Dodgers led the league in every offensive category and scored more runs (955) hit more home runs (208) and won more games (105) than any Brooklyn team before or since.

Includes a LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (Grade GU8).
