This is a Hall of Fame worthy classic a two-page handwritten letter from one giant of the game of baseball to another with a number of remarkably candid and personal references included. From a salutation "Dear Tyrus" to a touching ending that includes the admonition "I want you to be good and I am for you all the time" the letter is a fascinating look at the personal relationship between two men who individually made an enormous imprint on the early game. The two pages themselves are in Ex-Mt or even better condition are problem free and show only the expected creasing that comes from having been folded into sixths. Mack's handwriting is clear and concise unencumbered by such trivialities as paragraphing and includes observations like Mack admitting that he never should have managed the Athletics in 1950 when he had difficulty getting through the to the "boys" that final season alluding to a vague and undescribed something that had occurred during the winter months of 1950 that Mack didn't understand but loosely attributed to old age which sounds reasonable for a 90-year-old. Mack mentions that Cobb apparently received a letter from Sporting News publisher Taylor Spink urging Cobb to take care of the old players and Mack in turn mentioning that Spink had asked him to help get Spink's father into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Mack noted that he could do nothing in that regard even mentioning that HOF treasurer Paul Kerr did not care for Mack's bringing up the topic. Later on in the letter on the final page Mack notes that though Athletics' officials have made him president of the club he has no say at all. As noted this is nothing short of a sensation piece of baseball history encapsulated in two pages that belong in Cooperstown just as surely as the two principals involved.
