This 1953 Brown & Bigelow Babe Ruth playing card, the 6 of Clubs from the boxed set's complete 53-card deck, has been graded PSA NM-MT 8. The Brown & Bigelow issue is a non-sports curiosity prized by Ruth collectors for its painted, idealized image of a young boy batting beneath a looming, fist-clenched specter of Ruth himself, a distinctive design unlike any traditional card issue of the period. A PSA NM-MT 8 grade on this issue reflects strong original color and gloss, sharp corners, and clean surfaces with only the faintest handling wear, a notably high grade for a card type that saw heavy use as an actual playing card rather than a card meant for careful preservation. Given that intended use, surviving examples in NM-MT condition are scarce, making this a standout copy of an unusual and visually striking Ruth-themed issue.
