George “Shotgun” Shuba (1924–2014) was an outfielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1948–55), known for his powerful, compact swing. A career .259 hitter, he played in three World Series, winning the 1955 championship with Brooklyn. Shuba is remembered for his historic 1946 handshake with Jackie Robinson in Montreal, a symbol of baseball’s integration.

 

Offered is an Elaborate “1/20 12K” gold-filled tie clip that was issued to the Brooklyn Dodgers for winning the 1953 National League pennant after winning 105 games, finishing 13 games ahead of the 2nd place Milwaukee Braves. The decorative design features a representation of a baseball in the center that is engraved "National League Champions," while the engraving along the base reads "1953 Dodgers." The letters "G" and "S" are positioned on either side of the ball.

The tie clip measures 2 1/2" in length by about an inch high, with "National League Champs" and "19 - Dodgers - 53" engraved on the front. Well-preserved, the clip remains in excellent condition and weighs 18 grams. Only the third such piece that we’ve ever seen and the only one that has direct provenance from a player/family.

 

This derives from the estate of former Brooklyn Dodgers outfielder George Shuba, who hit a pinch home run in the 1953 World Series.
